Implants & Restorations

Dental implants

A dental implant replaces a missing tooth root. A small post is placed in the jaw bone, and once it has bonded with the bone, a crown is fixed on top. The new tooth does not come out and does not rely on the teeth next to it.

Dr. Rima J. Shah is a prosthodontist and implantologist. She plans the final tooth first and then the implant position that will support it.

Implants may be right for you if

  • You have one or more missing teeth
  • A tooth needs to be removed and you want a fixed replacement
  • You do not want to cut down healthy teeth for a bridge
  • Your denture is loose or uncomfortable
  • You have lost many teeth and want fixed teeth again

How the implant process works

  1. Consultation and scan

Dr. Rima examines your mouth and checks the bone with an X-ray or 3D scan.

  2. Treatment plan

You see your options, the number of visits, the timeline and the cost before deciding.

  3. Placing the implant

The implant post is placed in the jaw under local anaesthetic.

  4. Healing

The bone bonds with the implant over the following weeks to months. You may have a temporary tooth during this time.

  5. Fitting the crown

The final crown is made to match your other teeth and fixed onto the implant.

Ways implants can replace teeth

Single tooth

One implant with one crown, for one missing tooth.

Implant bridge

Two or more implants support a bridge that replaces several teeth in a row.

Implant-supported denture

A denture that clips onto implants, so it stays in place while you eat and talk.

Full-mouth rehabilitation

A full set of fixed teeth on implants, for people missing most or all of their teeth.

Caring for your implant

  • Eat soft food on that side for the first few days after placement
  • Brush and clean around the implant crown every day, like a natural tooth
  • Avoid smoking, which slows healing and raises the risk of implant problems
  • Keep regular check-ups so the implant and gums are monitored

Questions

Dental Implants: common questions

Ask your own question
Is getting a dental implant painful?

Implants are placed under local anaesthetic, so the area is numb. Some soreness for a few days afterwards is common and is managed with medicines.

How long does the whole implant process take?

It depends on your bone and whether a tooth has to be removed first. Most cases take a few months from placement to the final crown. Dr. Rima gives you a timeline at the consultation.

Can anyone get a dental implant?

Most adults with healthy gums and enough bone can. Some health conditions and heavy smoking need to be discussed first. The consultation answers this for your case.

How much do dental implants cost in Ahmedabad?

Cost depends on the number of implants, the type of crown and whether extra procedures are needed. You get an exact cost with your treatment plan after the consultation.
