Whitening does not change the colour of crowns, fillings or dentures. Some deep stains need other treatment.
How whitening is done

Teeth and gums are checked. A cleaning may be done first to remove surface stains and tartar.

Your current shade is recorded so you can see the change.

Protecting the gums
A barrier is placed to protect your gums from the gel.

Whitening
The whitening gel is applied to the teeth and left for the set time.

Result
Your new shade is compared with the old one, and you get advice on keeping it.

Is teeth whitening safe?
Whitening done by a dentist, after a check-up and with the gums protected, is considered safe. Temporary sensitivity is the most common side effect.
How long does teeth whitening last?
It varies with your habits. Tea, coffee and tobacco bring stains back faster. Good brushing and regular cleanings help the result last.
Will whitening work on my crowns or fillings?
No. Whitening only lightens natural teeth. Visible crowns or fillings may need replacing to match your new shade.
