Wisdom tooth removal
Wisdom teeth are the last teeth at the back of the mouth. They often come in late, partly, or at an angle because there is not enough space. This can cause pain, swelling and food trapping.
Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out. Dr. Rima checks the tooth with an X-ray and tells you whether it should be removed, and why.

Signs your wisdom tooth may need attention
- Pain or swelling at the very back of the mouth
- Gum over the tooth that is sore or bleeds
- Difficulty opening your mouth fully
- Bad taste or bad breath from the back of the mouth
- Food getting stuck behind your last molar
- Repeated infections around the same tooth
How wisdom tooth removal works
- 01
X-ray and assessment
An X-ray shows the position of the tooth and its roots, and how close it is to the nerve.
- 02
Your options
Dr. Rima explains whether removal is needed, how it will be done and what recovery looks like.
- 03
Numbing
The area is numbed with local anaesthetic.
- 04
Removal
The tooth is removed. A tooth under the gum may need a small cut and a few stitches.
- 05
Review
A follow-up check makes sure the area is healing well.

After wisdom tooth removal
- Bite on the gauze for the time you are told, to control bleeding
- Some swelling and discomfort for a few days is normal
- Eat soft, cool food and avoid hot drinks on the first day
- Do not spit forcefully, smoke or use a straw for the first few days
- Take medicines exactly as prescribed and message us if pain gets worse after a few days
Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?
No. A wisdom tooth that has grown in straight, can be cleaned and causes no problems can often stay. Dr. Rima advises removal only when there is a reason.
Is wisdom tooth removal painful?
The area is numbed during the procedure, so you feel pressure rather than pain. Soreness for a few days afterwards is normal and is managed with medicines.
How long does recovery take?
Most swelling and discomfort settle within a few days to a week. A tooth that was deep under the gum may take a little longer.
