Dental check-up and cleaning
A check-up finds small problems like early cavities and gum trouble while they are still quick and simple to fix. A professional cleaning removes the hard deposits (tartar) that brushing at home cannot.
At Anaya Dental, Dr. Rima J. Shah does both in one visit and tells you clearly if anything needs attention.
When to book a check-up
- It has been more than six months since your last visit
- Your gums bleed when you brush or floss
- You have bad breath that does not go away
- You see yellow or brown deposits near the gum line
- Food keeps getting stuck between the same teeth
- You are planning braces, whitening or any other treatment
What happens at your visit
Talk
You tell us about any pain, sensitivity or concerns, and any medicines you take.
Examination
Dr. Rima checks each tooth, your gums, your bite and the soft tissues of your mouth.
X-ray if needed
A small X-ray is taken only when a problem cannot be seen by eye, such as decay between teeth.
Cleaning
Tartar is removed with an ultrasonic scaler, then the teeth are polished smooth.

You get a clear summary: what is healthy, what needs treatment, and what can wait.

After a cleaning
- Mild sensitivity for a day or two is normal and settles on its own
- Gums may feel slightly tender if they were swollen before the cleaning
- Brush twice a day with a soft brush and clean between your teeth daily
- Book your next check-up in about six months, or sooner if Dr. Rima advises

How often should I get a dental check-up?
Most people should visit every six months. If you have gum problems or a lot of fillings, Dr. Rima may suggest shorter gaps.
Does teeth cleaning damage the enamel?
No. Professional cleaning removes tartar and stains from the surface of the tooth. It does not remove enamel.
Why do my teeth feel sensitive after cleaning?
Tartar can cover parts of the tooth near the gum. Once it is removed, those areas may feel sensitive for a day or two. This settles on its own.
